Think of Chat like texting a very smart assistant. You ask, Claude answers. Great for questions, brainstorming, writing help, and one-off tasks. Nothing persists unless you set up a Project.

Analogy: A whiteboard you can erase. Powerful in the moment, but you start fresh each time.

Claude Cowork — for getting work done

Cowork is a desktop mode where Claude has access to your files, connected apps (like QuickBooks, Notion, Gmail), and can run tasks automatically on a schedule. Built for repeatable work, not just one-off questions.

Analogy: An employee with a desk, a computer, and a recurring to-do list. They remember what they built and can run jobs while you're away.

⚠️ "Projects" appears in both — but they're different things. In Chat, a Project stores shared context (instructions + files) for a topic. In Cowork, Projects are organized work sessions with full tool access. Same word, different job.

Starts a fresh chat with Claude. No memory of previous conversations unless you're in a Project. Each conversation is its own blank slate.
